In my post at http://pcaviatorforu...tone/?hl=uk2000  , I mentioned how I had purchased directly from the developer, UK2000, a large number of UK2000 airports after not finding UK2000 in the list of manufacturers on the PCA Aust website, only later to find out that there are boxed versions under the name of Playsim. I mentioned what good airports UK2000 develops and how the then pricing regime made it cheaper to buy the boxed product of two airports from PCA Aust than to buy them separately as a download

About ten days ago, the PCA Aust email newsletter had one of those boxed products, Newcastle+Belfast as one of the featured products ( http://www.pcaviator...69&cat=0&page=1  ).

That recent email newsletter and my post about boxed sim products at http://pcaviatorforu...-of-flight-sim/ got me thinking about the currency of boxed products.

Some of the UK2000/Playsim boxed products appear to be now no longer the current versions of those airports (the updated versions being obtainable only in download form). For example, Heathrow boxed is shown as v2 but v3 was released as a download in 2014. Also, Stansted boxed is shown as v3.2 but the airport was updated in download to v4 last year.

Where a boxed product is no longer the current version of an airport, are there any arrangements in place via Playsims or UK2000 for the purchaser to obtain an update from those sources?

Gary,

In most cases the developer will allow update of older boxed versions to newer ones, if they offer a free upgrade path. Naturally, boxed editions contain the version of the software that was current when the discs were pressed. There are a few cases where a developer would not offer a download update for an older boxed copy of their product free of charge, but in most cases they are happy to oblige it seems.

This morning, after I had done a comparison exercise of download speeds from various sim-related websites (including of airports from the UK2000 website), I was having a look at some historical posts on the UK2000 Forum.

The posts in http://www.uk2000sce...hp?topic=7143.0  partly answer the query about the boxed Playsim UK2000 airports sold by PCA Aust in that the thread explains the steps for getting updates of a particular version, rather than the scenario for getting a new version itself.
